Previously Looked After Children resources and Open Surgery Flyer from Awena Virtual School

Below is a message from Helen Waring, the new lead for PLAC at Awena Virtual School with attachments with information regarding supporting children who are classed as PLAC, together with a PEP template that is not statutory but can be really helpful. There is also an open surgery flyer for supporting vulnerable pupils from Anne Binding – Education Lead for Children in Cornwall with a Social Worker.

I would just like to introduce myself as the new Lead for Previously Looked After Children in Awena Virtual School. My career to date has been a primary school teacher and a family support worker for an adoption agency. I am also an adoptive parent myself so hopefully able to understand many issues from different viewpoints.

I have been employed on a slightly different basis to my predecessor Rose, in that I will be working in this position on a part time basis of 3 days a week. My remit is support and guidance.

Please find attached information regarding supporting children who are classed as PLAC, together with a PEP template that is not statutory but can be really helpful.

An innovative, unique offer for all Leads for Vulnerable Children / DTs in Cornwall, starting in Autumn 2023!

Awena – Cornwall Virtual School is looking at running a pilot project in the next academic year, alongside the Educational Psychology Service. This offer will give staff the opportunity to take part in structured supervision with an Educational Psychologist with the main aim being, supporting professional development and wellbeing of Designated Teachers and / or Leads for Vulnerable Children. This will be a free, all-inclusive offer. We currently have 5 spaces remaining.

In order for this to be successful, we will need to know if your school would welcome the opportunity to take part. Please can we ask that you email your expression of interest to Awena – Cornwall Virtual School, virtualschool@cornwall.gov.uk . More details can be found on the attached leaflet.

We hope you embrace this as a fantastic opportunity to share experiences and feel supported in an ever increasing demanding role. We are looking forward to working with you on this.
